ISUZU N-Series Truck 4JJ1 2018 P02CE Trouble Repair Guide

This guide provides instructions for repairing the ISUZU N-series truck with the 4JJ1 3.0L engine from 2018, specifically addressing the P02CE trouble code related to cylinder 2 fuel injector offset learning at the minimum limit.

Overview

The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the crankshaft speed fluctuation for the cylinder with a small fuel quantity injection. If the crankshaft speed fluctuation exceeds expected acceleration, the system adjusts the injection energizing time to match expectations. Conversely, if the fluctuation is below expected acceleration, the system adjusts accordingly. When the adjusted injection energizing time falls below a threshold or the acceleration deviation is outside the predetermined range, the P02CE diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is set.

Conditions for Running the DTC

  1. No DTCs from the following list are set: P0087, P0088, P0089, P008F, P0093, P0112, P0113, P0117, P0118, P0182, P0183, P0191, P0192, P0193, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0237, P0238, P0261, P0262, P0264, P0265, P0267, P0268, P0270, P0271, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0335, P0336, P0401, P0402, P0404, P042E, P0562, P0563, P062F, P0641, P0651, P0697, P06AF, P1094, P1096, P111D, P111E, P2146, P2149, P2227, P2228, P2229, P2293.
  2. Battery voltage is above 10 volts.
  3. Ignition switch is ON.
  4. Vehicle is in a coast condition.
  5. Intake air temperature is above -22°F (-30°C).
  6. Fuel temperature is between 25°F to 158°F (-4°C to 70°C).
  7. Boost pressure exceeds 10.6 psi (73.5 kPa).
  8. Coolant temperature is above 167°F (75°C).
  9. Engine speed is between 1100 and 2430 RPM.
  10. Fuel injection quantity is less than 1 mm³/stroke.
  11. Accelerator pedal position is below 30%.
  12. Transmission lock-up is ON.
  13. Transmission gear position is 4th or higher.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM sets the P02CE code when the adjusted injection energizing time is below the threshold or the deviation in crankshaft speed acceleration is less than the predetermined range.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

  1. The ECM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails.
  2. The ECM records the operating conditions at the time of failure, storing this information in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.

Defaulted Warning Actions and Fail-Safe Controls

  1. MIL: ON
  2. Cruise Control Inhibition

The ECM turns OFF the MIL after three consecutive driving cycles if the diagnostic runs and does not fail.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

  1. A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles if no failures are reported after the ECM turns OFF the MIL.
  2. A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
  3. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the MIL and the DTC.
