How to Install the Engine Accelerator for HINO L-Series Trucks

Installing the engine accelerator in a HINO L-Series truck requires precision and attention to detail to ensure proper operation and avoid damage to the parts. This article will guide you through the process of installing the engine accelerator, specifically focusing on the accelerator sensor installation and adjustments.

Steps to Install:

  1. Ensure Full Speed Stopper Installation:
    • Ensure that the body control lever is equipped with a full speed stopper. This is crucial for controlling the stroke of the sensor lever.
  2. Adjust Body Control Lever:
    • Adjust the body control lever so that the full speed stopper makes contact earlier than the stroke stopper of the accelerator sensor. This adjustment ensures that the accelerator sensor lever operates within its designed range.
  3. Check Contact with Idling Stopper:
    • Adjust the speed control lever so that when the P.T.O. (Power Take-Off) or other equipment is not operating (during normal driving), the accelerator sensor lever is in contact with the idling stopper. This ensures proper engine operation during normal driving conditions.
  4. Install the Cable:
    • When installing the cable on the accelerator sensor lever, ensure that the cable pulls in a parallel direction to the lever stroke. This prevents an imbalanced load from being applied to the sensor shaft, which could cause damage.

Cautions During Installation:

  • Disassembly: Do not attempt to disassemble the sensor.
  • Handle with Care: Do not drop or shock the sensor as this can lead to malfunction.
  • Water Intrusion: Prevent water intrusion or direct splash on the sensor.
  • Operating Range: Ensure the sensor operates within its specified temperature range of -30°C to 80°C (-22°F to 176°F).
  • Mounting Location: Avoid areas prone to impacts, oil, dust, humidity, chemicals, and vibration. If a protected location is not available, install a cover to shield the sensor.
  • Wiring Harness: Secure the wiring harness to prevent twisting or bending. Refer to Chapter 7 of the manual for specific installation instructions. If the sub-harness is not long enough, extend it using the same type of wire.

Important Notes:

  • Clearance for Sensor Stroke Stopper:
    • The clearance specified for the accelerator sensor stroke stopper is for reference only. If the sensor side stopper contacts earlier, it could stress the sensor shaft, potentially causing damage.
    • If the sensor lever does not contact the idling stopper, improper engine operation during normal driving may result.

By following the above guidelines, you can ensure a successful installation of the engine accelerator in your HINO L-Series truck, keeping it running smoothly and efficiently. Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific details and safety precautions.
